Name

A quasi-acronym from ‘A Quantitative Trading Company.’

Simple and memorable. Water is also fluid and full of patterns which ties in well with quant strategies.

Tagline

‘We are building the world’s best prediction machine.’

Clever. They can’t promise performance. But the best prediction machine sounds like it will outperform. Also, it’s the next best thing to a time machine.

Structure

Single-page and minimalistic structure, with a nice balance between imagery and copy.

The hierarchy of information is also good; culture is their USP, and so they bring that in early and dedicate the majority of their site to explaining it.

Narrative

Innovation is the first derivative of culture – so give the people what they want and need.

Listing benefits (vacation++, mentoring programs, casual attire, happy hours, daily meals, etc.) is rare and reinforces the importance of culture at Aquatic.

No ubiquitous strategy section either; just a brief snippet to potential investors about what they do, like they’re playing hard to get. Sometimes friction increases the perceived value of things.

Imagery

Warm orange hues, a hooded trader and Jackson Pollock-esque art stand in stark contrast to typical IM office spaces.

They’re showing, not telling us, that they are different.
